Spotify now offers Lossless: What does it mean for you?

Spotify Lossless

It’s been one of the most requested features among music lovers, and now it’s here.

Spotify offers Lossless to Premium subscribers

Lossless audio is starting to roll out to Spotify Premium subscribers in selected markets. With this update, users can stream music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality, offering a significantly improved and more detailed listening experience.

“The wait is finally over,” says Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP of Subscriptions at Spotify. “We’ve built lossless with a focus on quality, ease of use, and transparency, so you always know what’s happening under the hood.”

System Audio’s silverback speakers and wireless music systems fully support Spotify’s upgrade and we are delighted that many of our users are now getting even more out of the music they love.

Our heart beats for involving and engaging experiences, as you know.

What is Lossless, and why does it matter?

Lossless audio means music is preserved in its original quality without compression that removes detail. It delivers a more authentic and rich sound, which has been especially sought after by enthusiasts and professionals. Whether you’re discovering new releases or revisiting old favorites, you now get access to music as the artists intended.

Lossless is part of Spotify’s ongoing strategy to enhance the Premium experience. Alongside features like DJ, Jam, AI Playlist, Mix, and daylist, as well as editorially curated playlists, Spotify continues to expand and refine its platform.

How to enable Lossless audio

Lossless must be manually enabled on each device. Follow these steps in the Spotify app:

Tap your profile in the top left
Go to Settings & Privacy → Audio Quality
Choose where to enable lossless: Wi-Fi, mobile data, and downloads
Once lossless is active, a Lossless indicator will appear in the player and Connect menu.

Flexible settings and broad device support

Spotify now allows you to set audio quality individually for Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and downloads – from Low to Lossless. The app also shows how much data each quality level uses, making it easy to choose what’s right for you.

Lossless is available on mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on a wide range of devices via Spotify Connect, including Stereo Hub HT, and Surround Hub. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices is coming in October.

Note: Bluetooth does not support full lossless bandwidth.

When will you get access?

Lossless is gradually rolling out in over 50 markets through October. Users in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Portugal, and New Zealand have already started gaining access.

A step closer to perfection

With lossless audio, Spotify takes another step toward delivering the best possible music experience. It’s a feature that not only improves sound quality – it strengthens the connection between listener and music.

Built for the future of sound

Spotify’s introduction of lossless audio marks an important step toward higher audio standards – and it’s exactly the kind of development our wireless silverback speakers and Stereo Hub HT and Surround Hub are designed to support.

With full digital signal processing, high-resolution wireless transmission, and support for Spotify Connect, our products are built to deliver true hi-fi experiences – without compromise. When you stream lossless from Spotify, you’re not just getting better sound – you’re tapping into a platform that aligns with the technological vision we’ve had from the beginning: bringing pure, uncolored sound into the home, wirelessly and effortlessly.

Silverback and our hubs also support Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, and Apple Music, all of which offer High Resolution Audio – so you can enjoy top-tier sound quality, no matter which streaming service you prefer.
