You install and position the speakers, and with anticipation, you put on your favourite track. But no matter how much you adjust the settings on the amplifier, the sound is muddy and unbalanced - and of course you immediately blame the speakers.

Ensure distance between speakers and wall

No matter how good a set of speakers is, the layout of the room they are in will always have an impact on the sound quality. For example, placing your speakers too close to a wall will often result in muddy and boomy bass. So the first step is to find the right distance between the wall and the speaker if you find that the sound is muddy.

We recommend 5-30 centimetres between the back wall and the speaker. However, the optimum position will depend on the room, so it's worth trying.

Beware of too much distance

Where too short a distance between wall and speakers will result in muddy bass, too long a distance will make the sound thin.

Therefore, finding the optimal position of the speakers in the living room will usually require some adjustment, because you need to find the crossing point where the bass is not muddy and the sound is not too thin.
